Kenny Roger's Roaster : Dinner

Monday, 15 December 2014
It is not a regular thing that we get to eat a lavish and opulent meal like tonight (as a family), therefore I shall blog about it.

Daddy and I ordered the Kenny Rogers Garden Meal (something like that, I totally forgot the name) but it was quite a disappointment. The chicken was good like always,  butttt the Caesar salad that comes with it was a complete catastrophe. The salad consists of only pieces of lettuces, sliced tomatoes and a few red onion rings. Raw. Naked. Bland. Tasteless. And no, no salad dressings no drizzles of olive oil. I ordered that because the attractive picture in the menu clearly portrayed dices of chicken breasts which looked tempting on the salad!  And the meal set was 40 cents more than the regular meal set. Good gracious!  Too sad.  In the end I had to abduct my sister's coleslaw and ate together with the (I called it) grass.

But anyway thumbs up for the black pepper roaster chicken and chocolate muffin. This evening's 30 minutes cardio was a waste.

Island 小岛 Tarts and Juice : Kuching

Thursday, 4 December 2014
Went out for a 2 hour (LOL we had so much to talk over pies and tarts) tea break with Kim, Alvin and Vic this afternoon.

Are you already drooling?

No?

It took us like 15 mins to take the perfect picture hahaha.
They have good pie selection although I didn't see any extra unusual options there. We had Mango Cheese tart, Ham & Cheese Quiche (the best among the three I think), and Alfredo Chicken Pie. We were kinda disappointed on their Mango Cheese tart though, the crust was almost impenetrable and wasn't all that tasty, there was almost no hint of cheese in it, and it was actually fairly bland. The mango cubes on top was a bit too sour for us as well. Moreover, at RM 7.50 a tart, you should be making a friggin awesome, mouth watering, want to bathe in it, kind of tart.
But anyway, my cheese & ham quiche was pretty good, but I hoped they would be more generous on the cheese toppings. Alfredo Chicken pie was average.

I saw two men beside our table order two large glasses... wait, it was way larger than an ordinary glass, okay two bucket (LOL) of fruit juices and it seemed so good! Would like to try someday.

Best Sarawak Laksa in Kuching: Thompson Corner

Sunday, 30 November 2014
Had breakfast with the fam this morning. LAKSA anddddd local black coffee.

sarawak laksa
Sarawak Laksa in all its glory. Rm 5.50 for small, RM 7 for large.
Sarawak laksa's broth is made with a paste of sambal belacan, sour tamarind, galangal, lemongrass, herbs and spices, chicken stock and coconut milk. A typical bowl of Sarawak laksa comes with rice vermicelli, omelette strips, shredded chicken, beansprouts, prawns, clams (upon request), fresh coriander and lime. All the above ingredients come together, forming the perfect union, nice and sturdy.

Read reviews of Thompson Corner Aunty Goh's laksa here.

Effortless DIY Carnival Game for Kids

Tomorrow is the big day! I'm gonna be taking care of 15 young children at the English Camp! Today I worked on a DIY carnival game for kids, super easy like eating rice (a Chinese saying :像吃饭一样容易).

diy game
You'll need egg cartons (4), poster colors or paint, paint brush, pen knife, newspaper (optional), black beans (optional), cellophane tape.
diy games
Paint the holes in a random order. In my case, I used red, green, and blue paint. Red for one point, green for two points, and blue for 3 points. The color with the highest point must be painted at holes which are difficult for the kids to reach.

diy games
Create a score board.

Like this. Simple.

Back view. Mine is kinda messy lol.

diy game
Im going to use black beans for the kids to toss.

For example, can you count the scores above? PS: Beans that fall into holes which is not colored = zero points.

Review : Majolica Majorca's Glass Drop Gel Coat

Friday, 28 November 2014
My friend Ivy gave me this Majolica Majorca's Glass Drop Gel Coat for my birthday last month, and it's been my favorite top coat ever since. I use my hands a lot and my nail polishes often chip easily on me, therefore a reliable (lol) topcoat is mandatory.

nail art

Majolica Majorca came up with a line called Glass Trick on the winter of 2011 and this is one of its products. It’s a quick drying (plus points yay!) shiny top coat that gives you the look of gel nails.

nail art

I applied the gel coat right after my rose gold and light beige nail color dried up.  It looks super glossy and the consistency is really thick, kinda gel-like.
Today is the 3rd day and it hasn't chip on me! Fyi I've been through house chores, opened canned bottles, painting, and HIIT ( not sure if it is relevant). The only disappointment is that it’s not as shiny and gel-like after a few days of wear.

Final verdict: I rate it a 3.5 out of 5.

No Sweat DIY Hand Painted Mini Journals

It has been almost 5 years since I last painted something with watercolor. To be honest, I don't think I have the artist blood running in my veins. Some people can just draw whatever and whoever they see or images that bloom in the realm of their imaginations, but I CAN'T ugh! I need samples, or better still, step-by-step tutorials lol.

So today, I created hand painted mini journals for kids after referring to a few watercolor art samples from Pinterest. It was amazingly easy and effortless!

kids journal
Prepare enough papers for kids to write on them. Lined papers, blank papers, colored papers, it's your choice.

kids journal
For my case, I wanted my journals to be mini in size so I cut them into half.

kids journal
Now, prepare the cover page for your journals.

kids journal
I used a calligraphy pen to create that artsy feel LOL but it is not necessary. You can just write in your own choice of font with pens, magic pens, or even print them out.

kids journal
There’s nothing more fun than blending with watercolor! With blending, you can get an extraordinary range of saturation and tone. You can start an area with a rich amount of pigment, and as you add more water, it will eventually blend into delicate and soft tones.

watercolor journal
Punch a hole on the upper left corner of your journal then tie them neatly with a ribbon.  TADA!

Summary of things you'll need:

  • Papers
  • Pen Knife
  • Watercolor
  • Watercolor brush
  • Pens/ Calligraphy pens/ Magic Pens
  • Hole Puncher
  • Ribbons

DIY Congkak (A Malaysian Traditional Game)

Wednesday, 26 November 2014
'Congkak' is a traditional game of Malay origin widely played in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and Southern Thailand. Usually congkak is made of teak or mahogany wood, commonly carved into boat shapes.

Learn how to play the congkak here:
How to play Congkak

Today, I did an easy version of DIY Congkak game set, it is eco friendly and light-weight too!

congkak
I used plastic bowls that I bought from SuperSave. Actually you don't have to buy new plastic bowls, better still, you may collect and reuse them.
congkak
Arrange the plastic bowls accordingly. The photo shown above is actually incorrect lol. Should have 7x7 and another two containers beside.

congkak
You will need these wire ties to attach your plastic bowls together.
Use a pen knife to cut a hole through the plastic bowls.

Twist. Turn. Twist. Turn. There you go.

congkak
Yay done. You may add some deco or paint the bowls with any color you want.
Summary of things you need:
  • Pen knife
  • Wire ties/ Ribbons/ Threads
  • Plastic bowls
  • Deco stickers/ color paper/ paint (optional)

Last night we decided to eat out instead of the usual boring home cook dishes (1 vege+ 1 meat + White rice), it's time for me to learn new recipes again soon.

Azuma Japanese Restaurant, located at Seremban 2 offers a superb menu in a contemporary and convivial atmosphere.

We had a hard time choosing.

Overall it was fine, but I still find Takenoko the best! Maybe we shouldn't have ordered fish, Bie's unagi and my sanma fish was strong in odour.
